AbbVie Reveals Positive Data for Eczema and Weight Loss Candidates

AbbVie Inc. (NYSE:ABBV) announced clinical trial data on Wednesday for two pipeline candidates, highlighting progress in its immunology and metabolic disease portfolios. The pharma giant shared encouraging Phase 2 outcomes for zumilokibart in treating moderate to severe atopic dermatitis, alongside promising Phase 1 weight-loss results for its novel amylin analog candidate, ABBV-295. Every evaluated dose achieved statistically significant improvements in skin clearance and itch reduction compared to placebo. High- and mid-dose regimens met key secondary endpoints, including EASI 90/100 skin clearance and I-NRS4 itch scores. The mid-dose cohort demonstrated rapid skin severity reductions by Week 1 and itch relief by Week 2. ABBV-295 Demonstrates Weight Loss Potential Separately, AbbVie presented Phase 1 multiple ascending dose trial results for ABBV-295 at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes 2026 Annual Meeting. The trial assessed the subcutaneous amylin analog—a drug class distinct from GLP-1 and GIP therapies—across 60 adults with a mean body mass index of 29.3 kg/m2. Participants receiving ABBV-295 across once-weekly, biweekly, and monthly dosing schedules achieved dose-dependent body weight reductions ranging from -7.8% to -9.8% over 12 to 13 weeks, compared with a -0.3% change in the placebo group. The drug’s mean half-life of 10.7 to 12.3 days supported extended dosing schedules. Adverse events were mostly mild, with no serious treatment-emergent events reported.
