Cathie Wood Buys $19 million of CoreWeave as AI Funding Surges. How Much CRWV Exposure do ETFs Offer?

CoreWeave Inc (NASDAQ:CRWV) is becoming an increasingly important holding across artificial intelligence and technology ETFs as investors weigh soaring demand for AI computing against the company’s heavy capital needs. ARK Investment Management bought 239,083 CoreWeave shares worth about $19.1 million on Thursday, adding 191,868 shares to the ARK Innovation ETF (BATS:ARKK) and 47,215 to the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (BATS:ARKW). Hundreds of ETFs hold CoreWeave, but its weight varies sharply across funds. Current holdings data shows that some AI-focused ETFs have significantly larger allocations than broad technology funds (exposure is not limited to pure-play AI funds). Why Are ETFs Betting on CoreWeave? The attraction is the rapid growth in demand for AI infrastructure. CoreWeave said it added more than $25 billion in customer commitments in early third-quarter 2026, while contracted power capacity increased from 3.7 gigawatts to 4.2 GW as of Aug. 11. The company also said it was signing short-term computing contracts at prices equivalent to roughly $40 million in annualized revenue per megawatt, highlighting the pricing power created by tight AI-compute capacity. But that growth requires enormous capital. CoreWeave plans to issue $3 billion of convertible senior notes, with an option for another $500 million. It has also launched an ATM program allowing it to sell up to 35 million Class A shares. Together, the programs could provide roughly $6.3 billion of financing capacity, although the final amount raised will depend on execution and market conditions. For ETF investors, that creates a key distinction: CRWV offers direct exposure to the AI-cloud spending boom, but its growth strategy also carries financing and potential dilution considerations.
