Bitcoin ETF Inflows Surge but ETH Still Outperforms: What Is Going On?

Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) is up roughly 8% over the past month, but Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) has outpaced it with an 11% advance, as signs of capital rotation and a bullish technical setup strengthen the case for ETH. Cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex on Monday described sentiment around Bitcoin as “warm,” with softer prices still supported by strong underlying demand of heavy ETF inflows. Still, the exchange cautioned that "one strong week is not a trend yet." Bitfinex highlighted that on Sept. 29 ETH spot trading volume was 300% that of Bitcoin, the highest ratio since September 2025. Bitcoin ETF Demand Surges — Is FOMO A Risk? Spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $2.77 billion in net inflows from Sept. 17 through Sept. 27, marking seven consecutive positive U.S. trading sessions and helping underpin Bitcoin’s recovery above $85,000. Strong ETF demand points to renewed investor appetite and provides an important source of buying pressure. Santiment Intelligence cautioned that rapidly accelerating inflows following a significant price rally can eventually signal FOMO and increase the risk of an overheated market. "Healthy demand is encouraging. Euphoric demand is where risk starts rising," the on-chain analytics firm said. Ethereum ETF flows, meanwhile, have been more mixed in recent weeks, although August 2026 recorded their strongest monthly inflows in more than a year. Ethereum’s technical structure is drawing attention. Crypto analyst Ali Martinez on Monday said Ethereum is forming a bull flag, with $2,640 serving as key support. An hourly close above $2,700 could confirm a breakout from the pattern and put $3,000 in sight. Widely followed trader ZeroHedge similarly noted that ETH has slipped into a bearish-to-neutral phase on the four-hour chart but argued that the higher-time-frame picture remains constructive. Ethereum’s relative strength comes as SharpLink CEO Joseph Chalom described Ethereum as his bet on the emergence of new financial rails. He argued that Ethereum’s key advantage over Bitcoin is programmability, with majority infrastructure for stablecoins, tokenization, DeFi and agentic applications is being built on ETH or ETH-compatible networks.
