Finnair Unveils Fleet Overhaul With Embraer Deal, Airbus Buy

Finnair Oyj (OTC:FNNNF) announced Monday it will renew its narrowbody fleet through a mix of new aircraft orders and used acquisitions. The move supports its goals of growth, efficiency, and lower emissions. The airline signed a purchase agreement with Embraer SA (NYSE:EMBJ) for 18 E195-E2 aircraft. The deal includes options for 16 more jets and 12 purchase rights. Finnair also reached agreements with RTX Corp. (NYSE:RTX) subsidiary Pratt & Whitney for spare engines and maintenance services for PW1900G GTF engines. In addition, Finnair plans to acquire up to 12 Airbus SE (OTC:EADSY) A320/321ceo aircraft from the used market. “This mix of new and used aircraft supports our growth and profitability targets in an optimal way, as we continue to implement our strategy,” said Chief Executive Officer Turkka Kuusisto. “With this investment, we are well positioned to offer our customers a growing, attractive network, as well as excellent reliability and customer experience. Introduction of the new E195-E2 aircraft to our fleet also reduces our CO₂ footprint, advancing our climate targets.” E195-E2 Deliveries Start in 2027 Deliveries of the 134-seat E195-E2 will begin in the third quarter of 2027. Finnair expects three aircraft in 2027, six in 2028, and six in 2029. Its partner Norra will operate the aircraft on regional routes. “The Embraer E195-E2 is a great match for our needs, enabling a stronger regional network that both strengthens connectivity to and from Finland, and efficiently feeds our long-haul network,” said Kuusisto. Embraer also highlighted the aircraft’s efficiency and economics. “Embraer is honoured to support Finnair’s exciting next chapter,” said Arjan Meijer, President & CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation. The E195-E2 delivers lower fuel burn, lower CO₂ emissions, and strong economics, he added. Airbus Fleet Replacement Plan Finnair said the A320/321ceo acquisitions will replace older A319 and A320 aircraft over time. The company will confirm final volumes and delivery timelines later. “A mix of larger and smaller narrow-bodies allows us to tap into the growth opportunities in our markets in a flexible and efficient manner,” Kuusisto said.
