Medicus Pharma Optimizes Portfolio Strategy With High-Value Focus

Medicus Pharma Ltd. (NASDAQ:MDCX) on Monday announced it will concentrate all future internally sponsored clinical development for its SkinJect asset exclusively on Gorlin syndrome patients presenting with multiple basal cell carcinoma lesions, concluding further development in sporadic nodular basal cell carcinoma. Gorlin syndrome, also called nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome, is a rare inherited genetic disorder that causes the body to form multiple cancerous and non-cancerous tumors. Gorlin syndrome affects roughly 11,000 U.S. patients with active lesions, resulting in 50,000 annual procedures. The shift reflects the company’s capital-efficient portfolio strategy announced earlier in September. Regulatory Alignment And FDA Feedback The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Office of Orphan Products Development placed review of the company’s Orphan Drug Designation and Rare Pediatric Disease Designation requests on hold pending additional information. Regulators noted that overall basal cell carcinoma prevalence exceeds statutory limits and highlighted prior clinical work outside Gorlin syndrome. Medicus believes its narrow focus directly resolves these regulatory issues as it prepares updated submissions. Clinical Progress And Market Potential In July, the FDA allowed Medicus to initiate its Phase 2b study for SkinJect. The program evaluates a 200-microgram doxorubicin-loaded dissolvable microneedle array patch designed to provide localized treatment for recurrent lesions. An independent commercial evaluation modeled net pricing at $25,800 per treatment, reflecting a $1.1 billion U.S. addressable market and potential peak domestic revenues of $383 million.
