Tower Semiconductor (NASDAQ/TASE: TSEM) and NewPhotonics have announced the high-volume shipment of laser-integrated optical engines aimed at meeting the increasing demand for high-bandwidth, energy-efficient optical interconnects in AI infrastructure. The optical engines support data rates from 800G to 1.6T, with plans for future manufacturing of 6.4T solutions. This collaboration utilizes the PH18DA silicon photonics technology platform, which integrates various components on a single photonic integrated circuit, enhancing yield and reliability. Volume shipments of the NPG102 PIC products are currently underway, with CPX-MSA compliant chipsets for 6.4T expected to begin shipping in the first half of 2027.
