Tesla Lost Canada — Now BYD Is Moving In Fast

Tesla's sales in Canada have significantly declined, dropping over 60% to approximately 18,000 units in 2025, as overall EV demand decreased by about 25% year-over-year. In response, BYD is rapidly entering the Canadian market with plans to establish 20 dealerships within its first year, starting in Toronto and expanding to other major cities. This move comes after Canada reduced tariffs on Chinese EVs from 100% to 6.1%, allowing BYD to target the affordable EV segment with models priced under $35,000, capitalizing on the gap left by Tesla.
