Trump's Medicaid Rollback Could Put Hundreds Of Hospitals In Peril, New Report Finds

A report by Public Citizen indicates that nearly 450 hospitals in the U.S. are at high risk of closing or reducing services due to over $900 billion in Medicaid and CHIP cuts under President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act. These hospitals collectively served about seven million patients in 2024 and employ approximately 275,000 direct care workers. The report highlights that rural hospitals and those serving Black and Latino patients are particularly vulnerable, with Bank of America estimating a 2-4% annual EBITDA headwind for hospitals over the next five years.
