Vonovia has paused new residential development projects in Berlin due to political uncertainty surrounding plans by the city's incoming left-wing coalition to potentially nationalize large private housing portfolios. CEO Luka Mucic stated that the company will finish the approximately 1,000 flats currently under construction but will not start new projects amid investment uncertainty. Vonovia has described the proposed socialization plans as unconstitutional and is facing significant financial pressure, including high debt levels and rising borrowing costs, which could affect its 140,000-flat portfolio in the city.
